SCHOOL READINESS
(3-15 years of Age)

EVALUATION

group
skills
Children who are ready for school
are thoroughly evaluated by the
therapist team. The team collaborates with the parents to set goals to prepare the child for school.
A big part of attending school is
getting used to the social environment.
Children are invited to participate in group sessions once or twice a week to prepare for school and learn social skills.

SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP

follow-up
Our special educator meets with
the school administration and
parents to discuss a plan for a safe
and smooth school transition.
The parents follow-up with the school
administration and report any issues to the
therapists. The therapists then create an updated plan to help the children learn
coping strategies as required.
COMMUNITY BASED REHABLITATION(CBR)

Barriers to Treatment

CBR
Workers
Due to the rugged terrain, unpredictable extremes of weather, and lack of access to transportation, some children cannot access the primary therapy center.
Three women from the local community have been trained and certified to be community based rehabilitation (CBR) workers. They travel by bus, taxi and on foot to children’s homes to treat them.

Therapist Home Visits

Quarterly Progress Meetings
Therapists visit the CBR children once a month to update their treatment plans and evaluations, and coach the CBR workers.
The team, CBR workers, and parents meet once a quarter to discuss their children’s progress, update their goals, and provide feedback.
COMMUNITY SCREENING

community Engagement

general
screening
The therapist team collaborates with local
government to conduct a public screening
camp in the surrounding villages.
The therapists assess the children brought by their families. Sometimes the therapists need to hike to the children’s homes because of the lack of accessibility

system

DISABILITY AWARENESS TALK
Children are referred to the primary therapy center for further therapy if needed. If children cannot access the center, they are referred to the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) program.
The team discusses disability rehabilitation and treatment options with the local community and answers any questions they may have.
