OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

The word “occupational” in Occupational Therapy can be misleading. This profession is not just about vocational counselling or work training. Occupational therapists are health care professionals who help people to resume or maintain participation in a variety of tasks – their jobs, leisure and social activities, getting around, caring for themselves and their home, and much more.

Occupational Therapy Expert

Hey,

I am Prisca Lorina Das, an Occupational Therapist holding a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with both children and adults with a wide range of disabilities, helping them rediscover independence and joy in everyday life.

My experience spans across clinical and community-based settings, including Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) initiatives where I’ve worked closely with underserved populations to ensure accessibility and inclusion. One of the most fulfilling aspects of my career has been working in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU), where I support neonates in developing vital oromotor skills- a foundation for feeding and communication that many take for granted.

Being an occupational therapist is more than just a profession for me- it’s my purpose. It’s a calling that allows me to walk alongside individuals with disabilities as they reclaim their autonomy, dignity, and place in society. It brings me immense joy to witness someone achieve their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)-simple, everyday tasks that are often overlooked, yet so crucial to independence.

Beyond therapy sessions, I am also an active advocate for disability rights. I engage in spreading awareness, conducting training programs, and have had the opportunity to speak on regional (Karbi Anglong and Sonitpur, Assam) news channel to highlight the challenges faced by people with disabilities.

I bring a fun, creative, and playful energy to my sessions so much so that you’d have a hard time spotting the therapist among the kids! My artistic spirit and boundless imagination are tools I use not just to engage my clients, but to make therapy a space of joy, discovery, and empowerment.
